HSR at PBIR 2012

What a fun day. I live near a lot of great racetracks, and this time of year they are busy with events that are fun to go watch. The Historic Racing Series came to town, and I had a full charge on the camera.

I don't miss these historic races if I can help it. The smells and sounds that these cars create is amazing. I always learn something - and it's great to meet people that are absolutely fanatical about sportscar racing.

This Camaro was all dressed up in IROC colors. I couldn't talk to anyone to confirm if this car is original or resto.

This is a great example of unexpected sportscar porn. This little beauty was just tucked away on the side of a racing rig.

And then there's this, the Jagster. The owner was showing at the car show (just inside the track - near the big sweeper) and was driving it through the paddock every time he wanted to watch some racing. Sounded like a healthy small block and a blower.

I love seeing these damn things on the track. When they pit in, I'm always looking to see if a bunch of circus clowns are going to pile out.

Please never let my wife see one of these cars in person. I know nothing about repairing Italian cars.

A Viking Invasion!!! The drivers from the Norwegian Camaro Cup (NCC) were invited down for three races this weekend.

The cars were quiet. Really quiet. I've heard louder cars at local HPDE events.

These cars were getting around the course in under a minute and a half - but the racing was very 'polite.'

They all looked like they had a good time - and it was great to see gearheads are a lot alike, regardless of the language we speak.

The GT1 cars stormed onto the track with the usual suspects present.

The field was paced by the Corvettes.

With this vette being the eventual winner.

This car had to be the biggest surprise of the day. It's an old GT1 tube car with new Falcon fiberglass. It looked amazing. Unfortunately it was bitten early, and went out shortly after the green flag dropped.

This was probably one of the more interesting races of the day for me. The bigger horsepower vintage stuff (Pre 73 I think.)

Just about every racing make from the late 60's and early 70's was represented in the field.

This abiguously-gray prepped Jag was awesome.

This vette was holding off the charge of the Porsche prototype pretty well until a tire went down going into turn 1. It got exciting for a moment.

After the flat tire appeared on the Vette this Porsche collected the lead, and eventually, the win.

It wasn't on the online schedule - but a bunch of the Porsche guys came out to fill up a run group.

The cars were quick, and businesslike. There wasn't a lot of close action.

When the historic and vintage cars came out, they were a lot of fun to watch.

If I stood right at the braking marker at the end of the short straight - I could almost make these cars appear to be carrying some speed with the right camera setting. This Triumph looked like it was fun to drive.

This Datsun 2000 roadster all dressed up in BRE livery turned out to be my favorite photo of the day. It gives me an idea for an illustration ;)

I don't know what it is about this Alpha - it would not let me capture a decent full-frame shot all day. Still, I like how this turned out - and I love how close to the action you can get at PBIR. This isn't shot with a telephoto lens. I shot this with my 18-55mm!!!
