M81 McLaren Mustang at Daytona

MEDIA: ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR - VECTOR
I didn't know much about this car until a recent project for mustanglab.com. The M81 McLaren Mustang was created during a time that Ford was considering replacing V8 powerplants with turbocharged 2.3L four cylinder engines for the Mustang. Imagine how the landscape of the modern pony car would have been different without the 5.0.

Regardless of which direction Ford took during that particular fork in the road, I fell in love with the M81. This is a study showing the Firestone sponsored McLaren trying to keep pace with the field running street tires during one of the grand-daddy of all endurance races.

This illustration is a slight departure from my typical photo-realistic approach. I like it. I recently had a chance to get out of town, and visit D.C. Apparently the many hours spent in the art museums influenced my style a bit. I experimented with many more undertones in the track surface and shadows and limited the color palette to 8 colors.

I'm making this print available for sale - signed and numbered for $40 (free standard shipping to the lower 48.) Details and purchase button are below.
